IMT

The National Institute for Research and Development in Microtechnologies is a non-budgetary research unit supervised by the Ministry of Education and Research. The Institute of Microtechnology set up in 1993, by a decision of the Romanian Government, became in 1996 a National Institute, by merging with the Research Institute for Electronic Components (ICCE). IMT-Bucharest is the only research unit in the country (and within a wide geographical area) focused on microtechnologies (micron technologies). The main activities focused on microtechnologies (micro and nanotechnologies microelectronics,) were developed during the years of activity in the national and international programmes for scientific research and services in microtechnologies and information, technological assistance for SMEs (consulting, design, technology transfer), organizing scientific events and training courses.

  Tasks of IMT in ASSEMIC:

  • Design and fabrication of optical sensors for micropositioning

  • Modeling of mobile Microsystems

  • Handling of biological materials and fluids by using surface acoustic waves. Interfacing systems to organic/biological molecules for genetic and cellular manipulation. Micro and nano devices relying on molecular recognition.

  • Computational fluid dynamics, modelling and simulation for fluid microhandling

  • Development of technologies for hybrid MOEMS, Development of optical interconnection.

  • Concurrent engineering techniques based on methods of computational intelligence. Methods of failure rate prediction used for the design of reliability approach.
