FhG/ILT

With a total of 230 employees and more than 10,000m² of usable floor space the Fraunhofer Institute of Laser Technology is world-wide one of the most important development and contract research institutes of its specific field. In the department of micro technology laser processes for packaging and interconnection, microstructuring and thin film technology are being developed. This includes micro welding and soldering, drilling and fine cutting, manufacturing of micro components and micro punching dies by laser ablation with excimer and Nd:YAG-lasers as well as manufacturing of functional layers through laser CVD, PLD and lasergalvanizing.

  Tasks of FhG/ILT in ASSEMIC:

  • Process control of joining processes (e.g. soldering, bonding, welding) for microparts. System technology for laser beam bonding of dissimilar materials. Development of laser sources with adapted specification

  • Laser technology for assembly and integration of hybrid Microsystems

  • Use of lasers for supervision and quality assurance in high speed production of MEMS

  • Metallurgical investigations on joint quality
